Privacy policy
Last updated: September 2026
This site is used by women living with, or leaving, domestic abuse. Privacy here is a safety issue, not a legal formality. This page explains plainly what is stored, who can see it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Who is responsible for your information
Abuse Free Mama (“we”, “us”) is the data controller for this site. You can reach us through the contact page.
What we do not collect
We do not ask for your real name, your address, your phone number, your contacts or your exact location. We use no advertising trackers, no Facebook or Google tracking pixels, and no third-party ad networks. We never sell your information, and we never share it with advertisers.
What we do store
- If you create an account: your email address and an encrypted password, so you can sign back in.
- Your private writing: journal entries, workbook answers and voice notes are stored against your account only. They are locked at database level so only your own signed-in account can open them.
- Community posts: shown under the community name you choose, never your real name or email.
- Letters: letters written to Dear Sister Survivor are anonymous. We store the nickname and the line about you that you type in, and nothing else — no account needed.
- Email list: if you tick the box to receive letters by email, we store your email address and the date you agreed. Nothing else.
Who can see what
Your journal, workbook answers and voice notes are private to you. Nobody else — including other members — can open them. Voice recordings sit in private storage and are only unlocked by short-lived links when you press play yourself.
Community posts and letters are read and approved by Loubie before they appear anywhere. Nothing you submit is published automatically.
Why we are allowed to hold it
Under UK GDPR, we rely on your consent for the email list, and on performance of a contract (providing the account and membership you asked for) for everything else. You can withdraw consent at any time.
How long we keep it
Your account and everything in it is kept while your account is open. If you delete your account, your journal entries, workbook answers and voice notes are deleted with it. You can unsubscribe from the email list at any time and your address is removed. Approved letters stay published anonymously unless you ask us to take one down.
Your rights
You have the right to ask for a copy of what we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, and to object to how it is used. Ask through the contact page and we will respond within one month. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
We use no advertising or analytics cookies. The only thing stored in your browser is what keeps you signed in when you have an account. There is nothing here tracking you around the internet.
Your device is the weak point
No website can protect you from someone who has access to your phone or laptop. If you think your device is being monitored, use a trusted friend’s phone, a library computer or a work device. The Quick Exit button takes you to a neutral page, but it cannot delete your browsing history.
Safeguarding
This site is not monitored around the clock and is not an emergency service. If you tell us something that suggests someone is in immediate danger, we may have to pass that on to the appropriate authority. If you or your children are in danger now, call 999 — press 55 if you cannot speak — or the free 24-hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline on 0808 2000 247.
